Data Link Devices using the ( Data Link) layer are usually located in the physical layer of the network. These devices are hardware that creates, sends and receives data frames on the network. Here are some devices that use the Data Link layer:
one. Network Cards (Network Interface Cards – NICs): Network cards are hardware that enables computers or servers to connect to the network. These cards use the Data Link layer to create, send and receive data frames.
2nd. Keys (Switches): Network switches are devices that manage communication between devices on the network and direct frames. They work on widely used networks such as Ethernet and can transmit data frames using Data Link layer protocols.
- Routers (Routers): Routers are devices that enable communication between different networks and direct data packets in the Network layer. However, they can transmit frames in physical environment using the Data Link layer.
- Modems: Modems convert digital data of computers or network devices into analog signals, enabling transmission over the transmission line. Some types of dial-up modem use the Data Link layer.
- Network Bridges (Bridges): Network bridges are used to facilitate communication between two different Ethernet networks and filter frames. These devices can examine and transmit data frames using the Data Link layer.
- Wireless Access Points (Wireless Access Points – WAPs): Wireless access points are used on wireless networks and enable wireless devices to be connected to the network using Data Link layer protocols.
These devices use the Data Link layer to organize network communication and transmit data frames on the physical environment. This layer ensures that data transmission on the network is reliable and organized.
